TESTIMONIALS

I wanted to share my testimony with you because starting your program has been the best decision I’ve made. I have scoliosis, and it effects my confidence greatly as well as how my body works. I’ve done endless cycles of side planks and other workouts trying to improve strength in my core and upper body with endless fails and a lot of shoulder pain. 3 months ago when I did the first core workout, I cried because I couldn’t do the arm exercises with any weight (and if I did it was with 2.5 pounds), and I was modifying the level 1 core exercises. Today I did all the level 2 exercises with 8 pound weights - arms and core with no shoulder pain, with confidence, with excitement that I was actually doing it. If you would have told me I would be able to do a shoulder fly with 8 pounds I would have laughed. And I can do it, all thanks to you. This strength has seriously helped me with my riding (horses, I barrel race) ability, coordination, control and confidence. I wanted to share that with you. Thank you thank you thank you for everything.

“I am consistently doing the workouts - LOVE them!! They are keeping me sane and in shape!! I love the variety of the workouts, and the full body workout they provide. Like everyone, I'm sure, I especially love the Tabata style workouts; they are fast moving, and you feel like you can really get through even the tough ones. I also have been repeating over and over the core/lower back video, done entirely on the mat. It feels amazing, and sometimes I put it on not only when I need to exercise, but just need to relax.”

“I love your online workouts and hope you don’t stop doing them. Any type of ab workout is always great since this is my problem area. I also appreciate the instructions you give – tips on the right and wrong ways. That has helped me. Thank you for being such a great coach / trainer.”

“I have been meaning to email you to let you know that I can see an improvement since I started doing your online workout. The biggest change has been in my balance. Initially I could not let go of some support, but I am trying that now, and it has gotten better. I also generally feel like the entire workout has become more doable. That helps with the motivation! And I really enjoy the Hooligans’ contributions in the background.”

Book Review
Let me start by just saying that I'm not this book's target audience. I am a man, and I do not really struggle with food or weight. Yet, I still found this book refreshing and inspiring. I would recommend it to anyone who is trying to make real change in her or his life. Sue exposes the lies that keep us so many of us trapped in cycles of addiction, self-loathing, and fear. With breathtaking honesty, she shares how she has struggled and continues to struggle with those self-destructive inner voices that come up when any of us decide to transform our lives. And she shows us by example that stumbling is not failing, that, with radical self-love and patience we can keep getting up and returning to the path. And the path is really what it's all about. Sue shows us that self-acceptance does not come from arriving at our ideal weight (or getting the perfect job or car or partner). On the contrary, having the rich and fulfilling life we dream of can only begin with loving ourselves enough even to heal the emotional wounds that keep us stuck in self-destructive patterns. Absolutely everything, Sue tells us with the conviction that comes from experience, must begin with loving ourselves just as we are. Thank you Sue, for the courage and generosity it must have taken to offer this testament to the world.

"Just wanted to take a minute to say thank you. I know I would not be where I am today without you, and I just want you to know how much I appreciate all that you do. Today as I was getting ready to go to an event, I tried on a pair of pants that I have not been able to wear in over a year and they fit. So again, thank you for helping me help myself."

"As many of you know I have lost about 40 lbs over the past couple of years through (1st) FITNESS and (later) changing my diet. This seminar is what finally clicked for me and helped me care enough about myself to make the changes I needed to get there. I cannot say enough good stuff about Sue Markovitch and Clear Rock Fitness. If you are struggling with weight, health or *whatever* and repeating the same stuff over and over... come hear what Sue has to say. She's been there and knows what she's talking about. No judgment, no weigh ins, just love & encouragement. Oh, and sweating. Lots of sweating."

Two years ago today I started working with Sue. I really did not know what to expect, I was looking for short term workout to get me through the winter months. Well as you can guess I have never looked back. Thank you one and all for accepting me into your wonderful group. There are no words that can tell you how much my workout days mean to me. Fitness, yes; however, the friendships, the feeling of belonging, the sharing is amazing. Sue runs a tight ship, none of us would want it any other way. Amazing is the only word for her commitment to all of us. Thank you all for two wonderful years, Hopefully many more!

Sue's fitness is different from any other place I have seen. She works with individual women and groups in a way that targets each person’s strengths and weaknesses, so that each woman feels empowered to progress but not pressured. Sue understands the emotional and psychological reasons why people are stuck in bad behavior patterns, and models how to change. She stresses safe techniques, but still challenges participants. She is empathetic in a way that is not usually seen in the fitness industry: "I understand the way you feel, because I came from the same place." LOVE working with her!

The seminar was more than I expected. I am certain it was a God moment for me. I've been a work-in-progress for close to 20 years. I've been to counselors that have been incredibly helpful but there's always a stumbling block - even years later. And, yes, I feel stuck, unloved, like I don't matter, unworthy. Those 2 hours on Saturday have not stopped resonating in my head. I've re-read my personal notes over and over. Truly, the lies and fear have a hold on me. For years I have struggled with forgiveness and still do. My story is filled with the same feelings as Sue, just a different story line. I can't afford any of this, but I think I'm worth it and I don't want to lose momentum. I really feel like I'm at a pivotal point. I know I'll backslide and have rough times but I feel more committed than I've ever been before. I'm so thankful for you and what I experienced at the seminar.

Book review:
Finding this book and Sue was what I needed right now in my life. An answered prayer? The fates aligning to my favor? I am stuck and down on myself. Reading this book was like having Sue sitting next to me, coaching, mentoring, encouraging, telling the truth about how to find my long lost mojo again and empower myself. No quick fixes or fads here. Just a lot of (un)common sense and grit and compassion. Compassion for one's self is a focal point. Sue gives great advice in a voice that is warm and genuine. She is honest in sharing her own struggles and her path to a better, more fulfilling and genuine life. Sue wants us to live our best selves, to express our soul, and reminds us that it is not selfish or silly to do so. Reading this book is like having a casual but meaningful talk with a good friend over coffee, warm and personal, not a lecture or sermon of do this, don't do that.
If you like the message and writing of Brene Brown, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Cheryl Strayed, you'll love this book as well. And if you live in central Ohio, specifically Westerville, you will be pleasantly surprised to find out Sue is a neighbor and very accessible. After reading her book I had the privilege of meeting Sue and have signed up for coaching through her studio, Clear Rock Fitness. Sue's book and friendship are becoming the bedrock of my journey back to myself!

Last year at this time I was wondering what I could do for myself to help me through the winter months. Love to walk, however the ice has not been kind to my wrists! My condo has euchre, knitting and many other activities. They just were not what I was looking for. I needed a fitness class but big gyms are not for me, so what's left? Then I found LYBU, sounds good I thought. I will check it out. WOW! I started with core strengthening. Loved it, although it was difficult since I had never done anything like this before. That led to personal training 2 days a week. The women I workout with are some of the nicest I have ever had the pleasure to be with. We share the same goals and it truly is great. Sue, our trainer is superb! She demands the best and makes you want to do your best. It's not just a class to attend anymore; it's become a huge part of my life. Did I mention this all came to me at 68 years old while having one of the most difficult years of my life? My mother passed away, my husband was very ill (doing very well now). There were days I thought I would never make it through, but I pushed myself to go and I credit Sue, the women in class and the fitness for helping me see that good days were ahead. Will keep working to improve, and who knows how many other goals I can achieve. Thanks for a great year!

I really appreciate Sue’s sensitivity in assessing and increasing the variety and difficulty of my exercise during our sessions; she is a true professional. It's a delight - seriously! - to work with her. I have an article about the highly positive effects of exercise on Parkinson's disease, and in one part of it, describing some exercises that are very similar to ones we are doing. I'm really grateful to have found her!

I am in my sixties and Sue was my last ditch effort to lose weight before I developed diabetes or some other disease that affected my life (or end it). I have lost 40 pounds and have walked a half marathon and feel great. I now know how to eat healthy and how to work out and burn calories, and Sue keeps me on track and accountable. I still have issues with my relationship with food and we are working on those and I know Sue will get me through them. Sue's WONDERFUL and I recommend her to everyone. She's been there and done that so she knows where you are coming from. She inspires me to do things I didn't even know I wanted to do (walk a marathon? HELLO). Sue will have me as a client for the rest of my life.

Personal Training client:
At 51 years old, I laughed when my husband suggested a personal trainer. I had conceded that age, metabolism, menopause and maybe even my thyroid had won and I could not permanently lose weight. Part of me wanted to pursue training just to prove I was right! Initially, the most significant thing Sue did was not have a plan. She met me where I was mentally, emotionally, and physically. As I became more comfortable with her, the workouts, the facility, she began to address the "baggage". The more my physical strength increased the more I began to kick my negative thinking to the curb. I am empowered on levels through this experience. Now, six months later I am 40 pounds lighter, five sizes smaller, and three weeks away from running my first 10K. Never knew I liked to run! Sue is an outstanding individual and excellent trainer. You will be a better you having benefited from her training.

Having Sue as my personal trainer gives me hope that I can do this and I'm not alone! Sue is not only my personal trainer, but someone who I know will understand just what I'm going through and will guide me every step of the way! I receive the weekly newsletter that Sue puts her heart and soul into with her own personal challenges and that proves she is a normal woman that has just like you and me! I'm down 49 pounds now and I know that I couldn't have done this without her knowledge and support!

Sue is the real thing. I don't live nearby to attend the classes but receive her support through her newsletters. The motivational section of her newsletters always seems to focus on what I need. Maybe that's because she knows what it's like to be someone who's looking to improve their lifestyle. Having lived it, she may not have always been fit, but she's always fabulous. Thanks for the newsletters and your support.

Sue is awesome! She helped me get in GREAT shape for my wedding in 2007, and you should have seen the amazing results. It’s incredibly fun looking at my pictures from that day, and seeing my ripped back and biceps! Sue is friendly, easy to work with and doesn't "kill" you like some other trainers do. You feel like you got a GREAT workout, and you can definitely feel the results. However, you're not close to passing out. She challenges you without pushing you over the edge...I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Sue as a trainer.

Having Sue as my personal trainer is one of the best decisions I have ever made! She listened to my needs and knew what it would take to reach my goals. She was always there for me when I needed extra motivation. She also taught me so much about what it takes to get fit and stay fit. Now that I have dropped two pants sizes my self-confidence has sky rocketed. I feel better about myself and the energy I have is amazing. I realize how much I am truly capable of!

I’m actually excited – I know that I need to be accountable and this one-on-one coaching approach is just what I need. A month or so ago I went back to Weight Watchers but didn’t stick with it. It didn’t really matter if I gained or lost when I weighed in each week – they just took my money and wrote down the number. No one challenged me.

Yesterday we walked the dog, rode our bikes to and from the Memorial tournament in the afternoon and then walked another 2.5 miles. Not bad for 65 year olds who are trying to keep moving! The exercise in itself is healthy but the conditioning enables us to live the life we want to live. Thanks to you for getting my body and mind moving in the right direction so many years ago. It has changed our lives.

I went shopping this weekend! I had a FUN day. I was standing in line at the one store waiting to purchase a dress when I heard the woman behind me tell her daughter, "you know I never try on things in the store, I just bring them home and then usually bring them back". When I looked at her, I saw myself (before I started training with you) and I remembered doing that all the time. I hated to try things on in the dressing rooms at the stores; if I needed something to wear, I would go at the last minute, pick up several things in different sizes, bring them home, try them on and usually hate them all, end up wearing my one cold weather getting-by outfit or my one warm weather getting-by outfit that I already had in my closet; and then of course take what I purchased back to the store; not to mention eating something that I didn't need at both of my shopping visits. It was never FUN! When I heard that woman say that, it made me realize how free I was of that pressure and so "unstuck" and also having FUN! What an awesome feeling! Thanks for helping me in my journey.

As I near my 4th year of working with Sue, I thought that I would share some observations for others who are new to work outs and searching for a better sense of self. For me, it started with my 50th birthday. The 50's are a mystery. You are too old to be young, yet too young to be old. Your brain has finally matured but your body is changing. I could deal with the gray hair and wrinkles, but in looking at the mirror, I wondered "when did my arms start to look like chicken wings" or "why is my torso sliding south?"
Dieting alone was not changing how I looked, and don't even get me started on the unrealistic thinness sold by the fashion industry. After thinking about it for one whole year, I finally called and arranged to show up that same day, my 51st birthday. I swear I felt like crawling out on my hands and knees after that first session! However, I kept coming back. I came back even when I felt like I would never be able to balance on one foot, let alone do bicep curls while balanced on one foot. There were many times when I felt self conscious about exercising. There were times when my brain understood but my body did not follow along because I simply could not lift a weight one more time. There were a lot of times when I just felt like a dork! I ignored those feelings and kept plugging along. I reminded myself that this was my time and my commitment to myself (something women have a hard time doing since we work, run the household and raise the kids).
Each time I showed up, I made an effort to balance a little bit longer or remember to keep my elbows tucked in or to really tighten my core. I started going to the community center in between just to practice doing the exercises that at times seemed so tough. Along the way, I slowly started to incorporate changes into my diet, (thanks to Spark People and Eat Clean recipes). That didn't change right away either. There were many times when I felt like I was taking one step forward and two steps back. But after one year, I noticed that my clothes started to fit better. That really encouraged me to keep going forward.
For anyone beginning this journey, I would suggest that they stay focused on the process and not the outcome. Don't judge this regimen for at least six months! Just do it! Keep coming back! No excuses! You're slowly building muscle memory and changing your metabolism. It is unrealistic to expect results in a matter of days or weeks but trust me, those days and weeks will add up like the change in the dryer and before you know it, you will like what you see... an age appropriate healthy body. After nearly four years, I feel healthy and happy. I look my age and I like it because I also look and feel fit!

"I wanted to share a story with you about when I traveled for business last week to Europe...as you know, with carry-on luggage comes the task of hoisting said luggage into tightly-spaced overhead bins. Usually, this is the recipe for neck strain and coming home feeling like I got beat up by my travel. But not this time! I could FEEL the difference in the strength of my arms, shoulders and core muscles while confidently shoving my bag where it needed to be. No neck straining required! So, the only thing I had to deal with upon my return was jet lag and not a jacked-up neck. Thank you for this convenient format for working-out that, well, works! I'm so grateful for you and this amazing concept. Plus, it's so nice to "see" you on the recordings."

Today is a happy day. I can’t believe I am actually exercising again. I am starting to wake up in the mornings with that tight feeling in my body and the inclination to get up and get it moving.

Just wanted to tell you what an awesome workout that was this morning – I’m telling you this now, because I’m sure in a few hours I will feel every muscle in my legs but seriously, it was great!

Thank you so very much for the coaching session yesterday. I enjoyed talking and listening. I was pumped the whole day and feel hopeful I CAN turn this around. I haven't felt that way since in a very long time so THANK YOU.

How awesome it has been, knowing you as a trainer and as a life coach. You’ve been a huge inspiration on both a personal and fitness level. You taught me how to believe in myself. You have truly changed my life. I owe my thanks to you!

It's been three years since I met Sue. It's been a long journey to reach the point where I no longer obsess about diet, weight management or fitness. I have a level of confidence that I never had before and I can't thank you enough for never compromising when I showed up late or gave you a startled look when you said "no do fifteen more”.

"I am a woman of incredible worth and even though I have been through many things in my life and I have a story, I am not my story. I am not damaged. I am perfect, beautiful, healed, whole. I deserve to be healthy and happy. I am worth treating with love and respect. I believe we all are". - Sue, I love this! It's awesome! Thanks for sharing as you do! It means a lot.

"Another great workout, Sue! I am feeling so, so good - it's what keeps me showing up. Thank you for doing what you do. My life is improving so much since I'm back to working our regularly with you. I'm feeling so strong - the muscles in my back allow me to stand straighter and for longer periods. I'm feeling happy and energized after our workouts. As I go about every day tasks, my body feels stronger and capable of doing the things I want to do. Just keeps getting better and better!"
